Phase One Completed
Phase One of the Little Sisters of the Poor Capital Campaign
building project has been successfully completed. To commemorate
this milestone, Bishop Donald W. Wuerl said Mass and dedicated the
new 54,000 square foot addition on February 11, 2004. More than 150
Residents, employees, benefactors, volunteers and Little Sisters
gathered to give thanks for the completion of this project.

This addition provides a new living area for 48 personal care and
nursing care Residents. The Little Sisters have always centered their
care on the Residents, and now have a building designed to incorpo-rate
their mission. The new addition is divided into four households of 12
Residents each. The Residents all have their own private bedroom which
opens into a common area made up of a full sized kitchen, living area,
dining room and porches. |

The sights and
sounds of a home will fill the air. Dishwashers, washers and dryers
will run as in an everyday home. Smells of bacon frying or pancakes
sizzling can now be enjoyed right in each household. They are free
to lounge in the living rooms and read a book, play cards, fix a
snack in the kitchen, or sit out on one of the porches and enjoy the
fresh air.
The lower floor
of the new addition contains a new full sized kitchen and laundry
department that services the entire Home, plus the inservice depart-ment,
housekeeping, maintenance areas and an indoor garage.
