Little Sisters of the Poor Announce the Campaign for Compassionate Care

October 3, 2007
Contact: Sister Mary Vincent, Administrator (412) 307-1100 or Mary Lynn Alpino, Development at 412-307-1249

James F. Will, Chairman of the Little Sisters of the Poor Advisory Board, will welcome a distinguished group of community leaders and benefactors to the Jeanne Jugan Pavilion at 1020 Benton Avenue on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 4 p.m. to formally announce their “The Campaign for Compassionate Care.

The Little Sisters of the Poor Home was in desperate need of expansion and repair in order to continue to serve the aged poor, whose population is increasing in the Pittsburgh area. To meet the growing demand for the quality care provided by their Home, the Sisters have undertaken an ambitious building project. The goal of this campaign is $15 million and includes the construction of an apartment complex for low income seniors, the renovation of the James P. Wall building that houses the medical, therapeutic and social services for the Home, and the creation of a senior center program.

Tours and a reception will complete the late afternoon gathering.

In 1872, the Pittsburgh community invited the Little Sisters of the Poor to establish a home for the elderly poor in this city. The Little Sisters of the Poor have responded to that need by caring for more than 12,000 aged poor regardless of race or religion.
