“A survey by the Office for National Statistics in August 2009 revealed that 6.4 million people over 65 have never used the internet.” Don’t include the eager Residents at the Little Sisters of the Poor Home in that survey, because a much demanded computer class for the Residents will begin on Monday, January11, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Other classes will follow on Wednesday, January 13, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday, January 15, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
“The Residents can’t wait to learn about computers and age won’t be a factor in their enjoyment of this new part of their lives,” said Sister Mary Vincent, Administrator. Among them are Ross, 81, and Mary, 91, both apartment Residents, who are eager to learn the internet. Another Resident, Margaret, 92 would love to stay in touch with her grandchildren by setting up her own e-mail address.
One of the Home’s new volunteers will begin basic computer instruction classes. He will cover fundamentals as to how to operate a computer, the internet and setting up e-mail addresses.
The Residents’ Computer Room was added as part of the renovation that took place last year to update the Home.
